2020: We Have It All

The 2020 Timeline

2020: We Have It All

Elizabeth Houlihan

2020, a lot has happened within a span of only 9 months. From the beginning we have seen an assanination, and to this day, we are witnessing a world-wide pandemic. Let’s take a closer look to the timeline, shall we? Don’t worry, I’ll keep it short and sweet.

On January 3, 2020, America assassinated Iranian General Qasem Soleimani by striking him with a drone at Baghdad international airport. Soleimani was seeking tensions between the U.S. and Iran, hopefully to cause a potential war. Later at his funeral, 56 individuals were killed by a stampede.

On January 5, 2020, five individuals were killed and 60 injured after a bus crash with many semi-trucks on the Pennsylvania turnpike.

On January 20, 2020, the first case of COVID-19 hit America, carried by a 30 year old man in Washington who was returning from China.

On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and seven other individuals were killed in a helicopter crash in California.

On February 4, 2020, Trump delivers the annual State of the Union address to the American people.

On February 6, 2020, NASA astronaut Christina Kock returned from earth after a record breaking day of 328, the longest a woman has ever been on the ISS.

On February 26, 2020, 5 people were shot and killed in a mass shooting at the Molson Beverage Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On March 9, 2020, Italy placed itself in a nationwide quarantine to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

On March 13, 2020, Trump declared COVID-19 a nationwide emergency.

On March 20, 2020, the world death toll pases 10,000 from COVID-19.

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd is killed by a police officer in Minneapolis, sparking the BLM movement.

On May 30, 2020, SpaceX sends 2 astronauts to the ISS.

On June 3,2020, the police who killed Goerge Floyd were charged with murder.

And of course, throughout September 2019 to March 2020, Australia faced devastating bushfires, killing millions of wildlife and destroying thousands of homes. And no one can forget the WWlll memes all throughout January.

2020 has brought many devastating events that have made us all question humanity and whether we have what it takes to continue on the human race. In spite of the horrors, the most recent crucial event just made history as the UAE and Israel signed a peace deal, and students are as well beginning to enter school again.

Maybe this year will end off on a good note? As long as they don’t cancel Halloween.
