Christmas Traditions

Tis the season! It’s finally December which means the snow is here and holiday spirit is all around. 2023 is almost over and I am ready for a new year and a new start. Before I start a new year, I need to complete my traditions that I do every year around this time.

Gingerbread Houses

A very friendly tradition many do is make gingerbread houses. It’s calming and super fun to see the results of your masterpiece. I don’t want to toot my own horn but I’m the best gingerbread house builder. I can build one in 10 minutes and it will look almost as beautiful as an actual house. Me and my brother use this craft to spend time with each other during the holidays.

Christmas Cookies

Do you leave cookies out for Santa? I do it every Christmas Eve but I usually end up eating them before Santa can get them. I bake Christmas cookies with my grandma and put on the frosting before I can put them out on the plate.

Buying and Wrapping Gifts

Now this is my favorite thing to do. I love spending my money, especially when it’s to make someone happy. Ever since I have been making my own money, I have bought almost everyone in my life Christmas presents. Last year I spent over $1000 on Christmas presents. Some people put off wrapping presents because it’s time consuming but I actually enjoy wrapping presents.

Look At Lights

Every Christmas Eve, my family drives around neighborhoods to look at the lights. It’s quite interesting to see how people decorate their houses. Some people go BIG and decorate their whole house while adding statues in the front yard. I surely do enjoy looking at Christmas lights.

Visit Santa

This is the one thing I’ve dreaded doing since I was a baby. I never saw the point in taking pictures with Santa Claus. Not until I got older did I realize that I wasn’t doing this for my own benefit. I was taking pictures with Santa so my grandma could look back on the years. It has been her tradition to take pictures with Santa every year. It’s always one individual picture rather than a group picture with just me and my twin brother. I would like to keep this tradition going in my family as long as I can.

Church

Going to Church on Christmas Eve is a well known event. I’ve only gone a few times when I was younger but now that I am older, I want to get back into going every Christmas Eve. I love Christmas but I also love the history of Christmas. A very long time ago on December 25th, Jesus was born under the Northern Star. That story will forever be my favorite story in the Bible.

Christmas is always a good time to be cheerful but most of all it’s filled with love. I hope you have a nice holiday and a happy New Year. What’s your favorite Christmas tradition?

We love playing pipe chimes with the whole family. It’s a great way to play Christmas carols (bell choir style) with the kids and grandparents- no musical talent needed.
