To start, human psychology is fascinating! Did you know that a majority of people who have routines and schedules in their daily lives do this in order to reduce mental overload in order to reduce stress and tiredness. Interesting facts like this make psychology very fascinating. Understanding about one’s self and about others that many people may not realize is kinda like a superpower.
Psychology is the study of the human mind. Cracking open secrets of the human mind that may lie secret in our brains. However, psychology had to start somewhere. Studied in 1879, and considered the first psychologist, Wilhelm Wundt, conducted his first psychology study in a lab with other people in Germany. He conducted the experiment by using light and stimulus to record the subjects reaction time. This was the first ever experiment to ever be recorded for human psychology. However, the experiment didn’t prove to be enlightening to others. As other people found it hard to agree with Wundt’s studies and findings. 1.2 History of Psychology, openstax.
As psychology evolved more and more our understanding and the eventual evolution of psychology, changed as well. As we know it today, psychology helps the understanding of the human mind, prevents the decline of mental health, and figuring out new research about our minds. Unlike in the early 19th century when psychology was a recent field to be studied in, psychology proves to be one of the most important aspects of health due to its importance despite its recent involvement in scientific study. Mentioned in the article 8 Psychology Basics You Need To Know, “Psychology now plays a significant role globally. Psychologists work in hospitals, mental health clinics, schools, colleges, universities, government agencies, businesses, and private practices”.
Due to our newer understanding of psychology, psychologists can access a person’s psyche just by analyzing their characteristics. Like the rorschach test, the rorschach test invented by Herman Rorschach, it was a psychological test aimed to see the results of peoples psyche by showing ink blots. The ink blots made by Rorschach were aimed to have no clear distinction or form from one person to another, as many individuals would recall seeing a different object, animal, shape, person, etc. Many subjects that were tested with the ink blots would give different results that would be a keen insight to their psychological body. An example of this is from a personal favorite, blot card number 6. Gathered info from Promoting the ethical use of the Rorschach Inkblot Test, rorscahch.org by Mark W. Matthews. Notable responses to what individuals see is an animal coat or an animal themed rug. And other popular responses consist of sexual relations. However, many other characters could see differently. These observations can offer a key insight to a person’s psychological profile.
Ryan McCall, a senior at Horizon, has to say when shown blot card number one, he says he sees a “bird”, and asked again if he sees anything else, he had to mention he saw an angel. Blot card number one is usually associated with bats, moths and some sorta flying insect. This is usually common with other researched responses. Seen on/gathered from the Online Rorschach Inkblot Test.
Roman Joosten, a junior at Horizon, had to say when looking at blot card number one “a disfigured wolf”. Asked again if he saw anything else, he said he saw a bunch of birds. While common response consistent with an animal or insect being able to fly or have wings to fly with. Romans first response was a wolf. While a bird or insect is relatively common for researched responses, a wolf stands out uniquely. Although this was an unprofessional interview in some sense, and not being a psychologist to analyze patterns like this, however, I can say that this response is particularly interesting based on common responses from research shown.
Responses like above can be keen insights to fascinating facts about people’s behavior and personality. Thus making psychology a fascinating subject to study for those that want to learn more about human behaviors.
