Singleness During The Holidays

Singleness During The Holidays

The holidays are a fun time where you can spend time with loved ones, friends, and significant others. All over social media you see couples post matching Christmas pajamas, baking cookies, watching movies, ice-skating, the list goes on. Although, some people have not yet got to experience the joy and excitement of having someone to do all these fun activities with. Social media has especially made this more of an “issue” for young people because it is flaunted everywhere. For some, being single or feeling lonely is hard enough, but during the time from November through December, it is even more extreme because of the amount of posts you are seeing. It definitely adds to the winter depression that some face. Even though it may feel like a lonely time, there are still many things to do over the holiday season.

As a person who has been single every holiday season, here are some ways I have still found ways to enjoy myself, and some things I would still like to try.

  1. Spend time with family: As teenagers we all tend to get tired of being at home and around our parents or siblings. But I think the holidays are the most important time to be spending time with loved ones.
  2. Spending time with friends: Similar to situations with families, as teens, we are only young for so long, and we should cherish the times we have with our friends. Eventually, we will all be off doing our own things, so spending holiday times with friends is sometimes more worth it, than with a boyfriend or girlfriend.
  3. Reflect on your year. You reflect on the person you grew to be during the year, and plan ways to improve and better yourself. It is important to focus on yourself sometimes

The holidays are interesting and stressful times, even if you spend it alone. But it is important to be grateful for the people around you and what you can do together and for yourself during the holidays. Remember, there is always next year to find a significant other.
