Whether you’re a frequently active member on social media or not, you have most likely seen people raving, or going crazy in Target over the latest trendy cup, the Stanley Cup. Across different social media platforms there have been videos of mobs of people trying to get the limited edition Stanleys, decorating the cups with a multitude of accessories, and even memes about how the cups are humongous.

This generation has seen and been apparent to different trends surrounding devices to hold water. The most recent one was the fascination with the HydroFlask. This was very popular around 2018-2019 when “VSCO Girls” and a beachy style was predominant amongst the younger generation. During this time, the cup was also getting a lot of its fame on TikTok.

But what is the difference with the Stanley, and will its “new found fame” last?

The Profile: Why did you buy a Stanley Cup?

Stephanie Smith (10): “I bought it because I honestly thought it would help me drink more water, and it did.”

Cassidy Payer (12): “I bought a Stanley Cup because I saw them everywhere and wanted to see why people liked them so much.”

The Profile: Do you think the Stanley Cups are worth it?

Stephanie Smith (10): “I am mixed about it. They leak, and they don’t keep your drink cold for an extended period of time, but they are nice.”

Cassidy Payer (12): “I do think they are worth it. They keep water cold and have a lot of space. I never have to refill my water throughout the day.”

The Profile: What’s the difference with Stanley Cups, aside from other water bottles?

Stephanie Smith (10): “I don’t think there is any difference, but they do have fun color options that other water bottles.”

Cassidy Payer (12): “I think the difference between a Stanley and a normal water bottle is the design that is more appealing to teens and young adults, which is the targeted audience.”

Regardless, if you like them or hate them, these cups are the next popular item, even with the heavy price tag. The Stanley company offers a lot of color options and they have nice quality to them. Some may say it is just a fad that will fade within the upcoming months, but the cups have without a doubt left a mark on the young generation.
