The time has come. The 2024 football season has come to an end for the class of 25’ seniors. Like every year, I write an article for the seniors, asking them questions about their season. This will be my last year writing these articles because I am a senior as well.
The Profile: As your last season comes to a close, what has been your biggest accomplishment? Why?
Senior Alex Birch- “My biggest accomplishment in high school is being the #1 QB in Horizon history, holding most of the offensive records and also being a top CHSAA QB of all time.”
Senior Manny Choy- “My biggest accomplishment at Horizon is becoming closer to all the seniors.”
Senior Tyler Elmore- “My biggest accomplishment was going from a completely inexperienced, benchwarmer freshman to starting varsity all games I played in senior year.”
Senior Radek Goetken- “My biggest accomplishment is enjoying senior year with my closest friends and seniors, and helping the younger classes.”
Senior Max Hammang- “My biggest accomplishment during my time in Horizon Football is becoming a captain of the team for my junior and senior year.”
Senior Jordan Harris- “My biggest accomplishment is starting varsity my sophomore year and keeping my position for the rest of high school.”
Senior Jayden Lobato- “My biggest accomplishment is just playing football for this long, a lot of people don’t go for 13 years.”
Senior John Lozoya- “My biggest accomplishment in football overall is how I found a way to always make the game fun and competitive between my teammates.”
Senior James Martinez- “One of my biggest accomplishments is just being able to play and understand the game of football and to play for Horizon.”
Senior Caiden Quintana- “My biggest accomplishment is being on varsity since my freshman year.”
Senior David Sanchez- “My biggest accomplishment is starting varsity at Horizon for 3 years, along with developing bonds with not only my teammates, but also my coaches.”
Senior Athan Vigil- “My biggest accomplishment is receiving Second Team All Conference my sophomore year which was also my first year playing varsity football, and my 3rd year playing football in my life. So that made me feel very good and had a great team that year that I got really close to.”
Senior Brady Walker- “My biggest accomplishment is never giving up on the sport I loved, I have played this sport since I was 5 years old and never once gave up on it.”
The Profile: What are your plans for after high school? Will you be playing football?
Senior Alex Birch- “Undecided yet if I will continue on with football but I plan on going into school and studying Mechanical Engineering.”
Senior Manny Choy- “I plan on taking a gap year then going into the workforce.”
Senior Tyler Elmore- “I plan on going to school for Religion and Law. If there is the ability, I hope to at least try and walk on to continue football.”
Senior Radek Goetken- “I am going to college.”
Senior Max Hammang- “I will not be playing football. I am going to attend the University of Kansas to major in Nursing and eventually become a CRNA.”
Senior Jordan Harris- “My plans for after high school is to hopefully go to college for football or wrestling but if I do not go to college then pursue a career in MMA.”
Senior Jayden Lobato- “I will not be playing football but I do want to attend college and major in Film.”
Senior John Lozoya- “I will be attending college.”
Senior James Martinez- “I want to go to college and would love to play football in college because it is one of my favorite things to do of all time.”
Senior Caiden Quintana- “I will be in college and will give playing football a try and see what happens.”
Senior David Sanchez- “My plans after high school are to attend a 4-year university, which I have not yet decided, and study the Pre-Medical field to become a Physician Assistant.”
Senior Athan Vigil- “My plans after high school is to go to college for Architecture, I will not be playing football in college.”
Senior Brady Walker- “My plans after high school is to go into a trade. I don’t plan on playing again but I would not be opposed to coaching.”
The Profile: How do you feel about this being your last high school football game?
Senior Alex Birch- “I feel very upset as these past 4 years have flown by so fast. A roller coaster of emotions is the true statement for how I feel.”
Senior Manny Choy- “I don’t really know, I feel like this is a new chapter in my life but I also feel sad.”
Senior Tyler Elmore- “I am just filled with gratitude for being allowed to play this wonderful sport with a wonderful team one last time, especially after missing my senior night due to injury.”
Senior Radek Goetken- “It is very bittersweet. I couldn’t wait to get out of practice everyday and have freedom but I didn’t ever want to give up my favorite sport and hobby.”
Senior Max Hammang- “I am extremely sad but feel grateful for the time spent. Football has been a massive part of my life since I was 6 years old, so I’m really emotional to play in one last game. However, I am glad I’ve been able to share this experience with my friends and ready to move on to the next chapter.”
Senior Jordan Harris- “I was super sad but grateful to have played football at this school with the people I played with, building a stronger connection and family in the 4 years of playing.”
Senior Jayden Lobato- “I’m kinda happy, it’s been a long road but I’m happy that I’m now able to look on to my future outside of football.”
Senior John Lozoya- “The way I was able to perform the sport was a pleasure but now that I am able to look past it and leave my childhood behind brings great joy to me.”
Senior James Martinez- “Just knowing that it’s going to be my last high school football game makes me pretty sad because I’ve been playing with the same guys for all four of my years at Horizon and it’s just sad knowing that I’ll never play with these guys again.”
Senior Caiden Quintana- “I was injured but it was still emotional and really hard for me because I know a lot of the team was upset about the injury and the fact I couldn’t end it with them.”
Senior David Sanchez- “I feel very emotional and upset that my football career has come to an end, along with the bond I had with my teammates over the last 4 years. It is truly something that I can never experience again, or again have the same experience with people around me.”
Senior Athan Vigil- “I feel sad about it and it flew by so fast. I’m excited for my life after this game but it will definitely be one I won’t ever forget especially with my best friends.”
Senior Brady Walker- “It’s very bitter sweet. My body needs a rest but I will miss the sport and miss the friends I played with.”
