September 19th, was Horizon’s Annual All Heroes Game. It was held a little later in the season due to bad weather. Some background information on what this event is. Horizon’s football, poms, cheer, and band come together to give kids with disabilities a chance to participate in these activities. This is a night of big smiles and lifelong memories.
Football
On the football side, seniors and juniors pair up with a participant to guide them through the field. The freshmen and sophomores stand at the end zone waiting for the touchdowns to make a chant for the runner. Everyone gets a chance to run with the ball and a chance to make a touchdown. The participants get to experience what a football game looks like by being able to push through the football players to the endzone for the touchdown.
Cheer
On the cheerleading side, the poms and cheer program attend this event every year. Us cheerleaders get the privilege of teaching the participants our cheers, chants, waving poms, and showing them what it’s like to cheer from our point of view on the sidelines. As well as showing the participants how a football game goes during the season. Walking them through the steps of running through the tunnel with cheerleaders and football players. Cheering them on while the football participants run down the field with the football to the end zone scoring a touchdown. All in all this event shows our empathy, kindness, support, and all the above from our hawk program to these participants that make the world to them more than we know.
This event is one everyone looks forward to. It’s the thing that kicks off the season, unfortunately the game was moved to mid season due to the weather. But, no matter the date, this will always be our Hawk Tradition!
