It’s November! Thanksgiving is just around the corner and the weather is changing. This holiday is one of my favorite holidays because it’s the most calming for me. Thanksgiving has a lot of background to the holiday and I would like to share it from my own personal knowledge.
History
Thanksgiving is a national holiday that is celebrated here in the United States. The first Thanksgiving celebrated in the colonies was in 1621 when the Plymouth colonists from England and Native Americans from the Wampanoag people celebrated a fall harvest feast. In 1863, President Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving to be held each November nationally. Many Americans still object to celebrating this event because they believed it was a disguise from the actual bloodshed and oppression within the relationship between the European settlers and Native Americans.
Events
The week surrounding Thanksgiving holds a few events. I personally enjoy all these events but others may have a different opinion about the events. One event that I enjoy watching on Thanksgiving is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade that takes place in New York City. The football game we watch while eating our Thanksgiving meal is always the best time. I love spending time with my family and friends even if it’s just watching a football game. But, the one thing I love the most is the Black Friday shopping the day after Thanksgiving. I love spending money and it’s the best way to get everything cheap.
I love this holiday! It brings me so much joy knowing that it’s closer to Christmas and I can spend money. Thanksgiving is one day when most of my family can get together to eat food and spend time together.
