Return of the Jedi

Return of the Jedi

After waiting for months Star Wars fans were finally gifted with a teaser trailer for the Kenobi show on March 9, 2022. Fans were exhilarated to finally have a glimpse into the show that will be releasing May 25, 2022 which will be exactly 45 years after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope which is where it all began. The Kenobi show will be starring Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and will also see the return of Hadyn Christianson who will be playing Vader and Anakin. The show will only be streaming on Disney+ however.

In the Trailer

There were so many cool and interesting things that we had a chance to see make an appearance in the trailer. All of the characters and places shown have made the fans more excited than they already were. Well, fans who have seen the animated shows. For the fans who haven’t seen The Clone Wars or Rebels they might not have realized the shock of certain characters making an appearance.

The character that has surely been recognized by fans however is Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now, if you don’t know who Kenobi is I’m unsure why you care about the trailer but I can explain who he is anyway. Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Jedi who trained Anakin Skywalker who later became Darth Vader. He also watched over Luke Skywalker while he was on Tatooine and kept him safe from Vader. He was first played by Alec Genius but was later, and currently, played by Ewan McGregor. He has been a fan favorite from the beginning and probably one of the most famous characters in Star Wars only second to Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.

Speaking of Luke Skywalker, in the trailer we were able to catch a glimpse of a very  young Luke Skywalker. By the time of the show Luke Skywalker is about 10 years old and still living with his Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen. All of these characters were also in the original star wars and Beru and Owen will be played by the actors who played them in the prequel trilogy. It will be very interesting to see how they play a part in the show especially because several Star Wars comics show they aren’t the biggest fans of Kenobi or the jedi.

On the topic of jedi it’s time to talk about their enemies, the sith. More specifically, in this situation, the inquisitors. For those who don’t know the inquisitors are some of the main antagonists in seasons one and two of Star Wars: Rebels. Inquisitors are all force sensitive people who were handpicked and trained by Darth Vader. It was then their job to hunt down any remaining jedi who managed to survive Order 66. They are all different species and races but each are members of the dark side. Of the inquisitors, we see there are two that are familiar. The first is the fifth brother who, in Rebels season two, works alongside the seventh sister to hunt down Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, and Ahsoka Tano. It’s uncertain which Star Wars race he is but he is a humanoid species. The other familiar inquisitor is the Grand Inquisitor. The Grand Inquisitor is a Pau’an who was originally a Jedi temple guard. He is also the main antagonist in season one of Rebels and he, I personally think, is one of the cooler Star Wars villains. It’s very exciting to see a crowd favorite being brought to live action like many before him. Fans are all anxious to see what he is going to do in the show and how large of a part he is going to play.

Things People Want to See

Now that we’ve discussed some of the important things in the teaser trailer it’s time to talk about what some fans are hoping we’ll get to see in the show. The biggest thing people want to see is familiar characters. It has been announced that there will be flashbacks in the Kenobi show which means possible flashbacks to the clone wars. Many fans are really hoping we’ll get a chance to see Ahsoka Tano, Satine Kryze, Commander Cody, and several other familiar characters from the clone wars. It would definitely be amazing to see certain characters, like Satine Kryze, the Duchess of Mandalore, in live action and see other characters, like Commander Cody, return to live action.

Another thing that people are hoping to see is Obi-Wan paying visits to the grave of Shmi Skywalker. For those who don’t recognize the name, Shmi is the mother of Anakin Skywalker. There are a couple comics and books where Obi-Wan would stop by Shmi’s grave and apologize for losing her son to the darkside. I’m not sure why fans want a scene that will make them sob their eyes out but I’m here for it.

So much was revealed in this trailer and it was only a teaser. It’ll be amazing to see the actual trailer drop, however the date is a mystery, and even better when the show starts airing. However, We have a little more than two months until that so until then may the force be with you.
