The Horizon vs. Loveland game took place on Tuesday January 18th, at 6:30 at The Nest. This game marked the second game of the official basketball season. Loveland and Horizon both held their own throughout the game, it was a very close tie until the 4th quarter when Horizon swooped in for the win. Additionally, this game included both Cheer and Poms teams  supporting the Varsity boys basketball team. The Varsity Poms team performed their traditional half time dance and Varsity Cheer did cheers though the game encouraging the players to play strong. These cheers were also supported by the HHS Band that crowded one section of the stands.

During the 1st quarter, Horizon had a rocky start. Senior Blake Kramer (#3) made the first basket of the game. However, shortly after, Riley Oller (#24) got hurt within the first 2-3 minutes of the quarter. It was reported that he dislocated his knee and he will be out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Additionally, player Blake Kramer got a technical foul, marking the first of many throughout the game. The final score of the first quarter was 14-15 with Loveland up by only one point. However the 2nd and 3rd quarters did not have much action. The scores were very close during this 20 minute period. The 2nd quarter ended with a score of 31-39. Horizon losing by a total of 8 points and the 3rd quarter ended with a score of 43-46 Horizon again losing by 3.

During the 4th and final quarter, the stands were filled with anxiety. Students, staff and parents were not sure who was going to win the game. The fourth quarter technical fouls were racking up between the Loveland and Horizon players. It was definitely safe to say that this game was not going to go down without a fight. During the 4th quarter, Loveland player

(#15) Ty Young, the Loveland head Coach, and Chris Gebhart all got technical fouls. In addition to, Horizon’s player #2 Kyle Northrupp against Loveland’s player #25, Kyle Powell, and vice versa. The final score was 71-52 Horizon with the win!

Overall, this game kicked off a great start to our 2022 basketball season, and HHS is excited to see how far these boys will go. Keep up the great work and let’s go Hawks!!
