Horizon’s Homecoming Week and Football Game

Horizon’s Homecoming Week and Football Game

Horizon started their homecoming week October 4th and ended the week October 9th with the annual school dance. This year’s homecoming theme was Horizon Goes to Hollywood, and the spirit days were based off of several famous movies such as, “Urban Cowboy ”, “Footloose”, and “Major Payne ”. Monday, October 4th started off with Horizon’s Powder Puff game between Junior and Senior girls, which is a form of a fundraiser for the dance at the end of the week. These girls played flag football while the junior and senior boys were the poms and cheerleaders. Horizon’s seniors were so excited for this game, considering last year they never got the chance to participate. The junior boys worked very hard performing cheers, stunting, and tumbling, being able to hype up the crowd. At half time the senior boys performed a hip hop dance, directed by the Poms Varsity Cheer Captains, Sarah Parys, Alivia Hatcher, and Nevaeh Aragon. In the second quarter of the game Horizon Seniors took a significant lead in points and ended the game 27-6.

Throughout the week Horizon continued with their spirit days such as 80’s and cowboys, until the Homecoming assembly that took place Friday, October 8th where the students dressed in Hawk Gear and showed tons of school spirit. Cheer and Poms teams performed along with the junior cheer powder puff boys making history performing a P.R.I.D.E cheer and the senior poms powder puff boys ended the assembly with their dance from the powder puff halftime. In addition, there was a fundraiser, called The Miracle Minutes for Chad, Horizon’s most loved campus supervisor who has been in and out of the hospital since the beginning of the school year. Everyone at the assembly brought extra cash, and the event was a huge success.

The Homecoming game took place that night, where we had the homecoming tailgate with several food trucks and plenty of fun games for the students, staff and families to enjoy. Furthermore, they announced this year’s Homecoming royalty, Cheer and Poms made history performing a collaborative performance at halftime for the first time ever, and Horizon set off fireworks to kick off the second half of the varsity football game. That night, Horizon played in a close yet difficult game against Fossil Ridge. Horizon had the first touchdown of the game only 7 seconds in, but took the loss in the 4th quarter. Thankfully this game, the players walked out with minimal injuries unlike the game against Rocky Mountain, where Horizon boys walked out with a sprained wrist, a concussion, and even one being taken away via ambulance. The final score of the game was 40-32, but Horizon is glad to say that the boys played hard and tried their best.
