What Fashion Trends are Coming in 2021?

Many trends are coming this year, whether they look good or not. Every year new trends come and go, but some stick around for a while. Last year we saw a lot of trends emerge, popular clothing trends of last year included bermuda shorts, maxi skirts, chunky boots, and pastel bucket hats. But this year we are expecting more bright colors and once popular clothing items to appear. Well, what clothing items are we expecting?

Bubble Gum Pink:

Editors of the Who What Wear website believe that people will opt for the vibrant color, Bubble Gum Pink, this year over more neutral colors. The color trend was spotted everywear on the S/S 21 runways and has already entered the wardrobe of several fashion influencers. As of now, editors are calling Bubble Gum Pink the color of the year. We think this year we will see a departure of neutral colors, and see more vibrant colors such as Neon Green and bright Orange.

Loose Pants:

Loose Pants have been a staple on the runways showcasing spring 2021 fashion. An Editor from the Who What Wear article said,  “There were tons of loose, baggy trousers on the spring runways and I especially loved how they were styled at Fendi. The trend just has such a chill, devil-may-care vibe that I could certainly use more of in my life.” Other celebrities have also been partaking in this trend such as Harry Styles and Bella Hadid. This comfy wide-leg silhouette might even rival your favorite sweatpants. On the runways we have also been seeing wide leg jeans, which are making a comeback.

Miniskirts:

You could say Miniskirts are always around, but this year you will definitely see them on more people than ever. A Fashion editor said, “Hemlines creeped ever higher on the spring 2021 runways, most notably at Miu Miu where the miniskirts paired with short-sleeve knits transported me back to the ’60s. I know it’s a trend that I’ll definitely be aiming to try next spring once the weather permits bare legs again. I can already envision wearing one with knee-high boots and a shrunken knit.” It should be credited that the trend most likely started from Kate Moss and Paris Hilton due to their love of skirts. Miniskirts are a great clothing item to wear because they can go with a lot of different items and most importantly you don’t have to be a model to pull it off.

Checkerboard Prints:

Not only are bright colors going to be apparent this summer, we will also see CheckerBoard prints. “It was on the Fall/Winter 2020 runways and continued into Spring/Summer 2021 shows, so you know it’s only going to gain steam with the warmer months ahead. Brands like Paloma Wool, KJ Plumb, Kkco, Tyler McGillivary, Gimaguas, Holiday the Label, Lisa Says Gah! and more have embraced the print and added twists to them like warping the squares for an illusion effect or distorting them into other shapes.” Not only has this patterned influenced clothing styles but it is very popular among home goods. You might see this print on a runway show this year or in your very own kitchen.

Velour Tracksuits:

A trend in the early 2000s might be making a comeback in a few short months. Velour jumpsuits are on the rise. We might also wear tracksuits made in different fabrics then the regular silk or satin. Celebrities like Kim Kardashion, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Britney spears, and Jennifer Lopez might be able to take credit for the rise in once popular tracksuits. Many celebrities have also been creating their own jumpsuits like Rihanna in her clothing line Fenty.

Platform Flip-Flops:

After making a small comeback a couple of years ago, Platform flip-flops are most likely going to be making a huge comeback this year. This 90s throwback is the ultimate spring and summer pick me up. As a couple of years ago almost all teen girls were wearing platform sandals, but these Platform flip-flops might have replaced platform sandals. This style of shoe can go with a lot of different clothing options making it an effortless look.

Two-Tone Pieces:

You might be seeing more two toned pieces come out this year. This was an emerging trend in 2020 but it’s expected to expand even more. As of now two toned pieces have been commonly found in jeans, but we hope to see them transition into more types of clothing. Two-tones pieces are definitely bold and are the ultimate fashion statement. Most commonly we see it in half-black and white but as the trend increases Fashion Experts expect more colors to emerge.

Many more styles are expected to emerge this year. Some styles are really out there, but there are some a lot of people would really enjoy wearing. Do you think these styles will prevail or are they a flop?
