Recently there has been a game that has emerged from the dead. Originally released in 2018 the game “Among Us” has grown super popular in these last few months. It began to grow in popularity when many well-known Twitch streamers and Youtubers, such as PewDiePie, Gloom, Pokimane, Should, ect…, started playing it. This game, which was originally only available for $5 on Steam, was released as a free mobile game after its recent popularity growth. As of currently it has around 3.8 million players. 

Another main reason the game grew was because an Among Us 2 was announced. However the making of the sequel has since been cancelled as the creators want to focus more on the original game. This bummed a few people until the creators of the game, Innersloth, came out and explained why. They said “All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1.” After this news fans of the game became a lot more excited. 

People in the gaming realm have mixed feelings about the game. Some have been surprised that Among Us has become so popular. In this game there is no actual story line and the graphics aren’t like anything recent. Others haven’t been as surprised that it’s become more well known. It’s a fun way to bond with friends and possibly even make new ones. They like the simplicity of the game with both it’s graphics and goal. It might not necessarily be a game you can just jump onto when you have one or two minutes open but it’s definitely something that’s fun to play when you’re bored and want something to do. 

For those unsure what this game is it’s a cooperative game. If you are a crewmate you have to work with the other crewmates to complete all the tasks around the ship, some of these tasks include swiping a card, emptying trash, fixing wires, and more. If you are the imposter you have to work with the other imposter(s) to prevent the crewmates from winning. And there is really no need to worry, the skills required to play are next to nothing, you just need a little strategy and to be able to lie. The reason you need to lie is because if you are the imposter you need to be able to persuade the others that you are a crewmate like the rest of them. You can either play with up to nine other people. Only 10 people are allowed in a game at any given time.

When it comes to actually playing the game a majority of the players prefer playing with two imposters and the map called the Skeld, which is a spaceship. Most people prefer this map because the map has advantages and disadvantages for each player. The two imposters are preferred because then the both of them can work together and it makes the role a little easier.  You can have one, two, or three imposters and there are also three separate maps you can play on, each coming with their own advantages and disadvantages. 

When the game starts you are randomly assigned the role of Crewmate or Imposter. The crewmates are given a list of tasks to complete and completing them all is a way to win. There are several types of tasks and some are even visual, meaning that there is a light that signals to the others, which then help prove your innocence. The Imposters are supposed to sabotage and kill to win. However, they must learn to strategize as they have something called a “kill cooldown” which is the amount of time you have to wait before you can kill again. The Imposters can go through vents on the floor to help them get around faster and get away from their dead victims. The final thing they can do is sabotage. They can turn off the lights, they can jam coms, they can close doors, and they can even cause problems that if not fixed by the crewmates in a certain amount of time causes everyone to die. 

To have a little more fun with your avatar you can choose from 12 colors and several hats that are free. If you want to get a little extra fancy you can purchase new hats, outfits, and even a pet that will follow you around. The hats help add character to your little avatar which is always fun. There are also seasonal hats, for Halloween there are spooky hats, for Christmas there are festive hats, and so on. 

Although this is an older game it is certainly worth playing. And whether you play with friends or play with strangers I can promise you will have a good time. So have fun but remember to keep an eye out for the imposter among us.
