For the past five years, Horizon High School has organized Wish Week, a week long fundraiser raising money for an honorable cause.

For the 2019 Wish Week, Horizon partnered with Make-A-Wish Colorado to raise $8,000 to send Elias, a 14 year old cancer patient in our community, and his family to his dream place, Hawaii.

The efforts to raise money and morales were illustrated during Horizon’s corresponding spirit week. To recognize Elias’s dream, the week was kicked off with Hawaiian day and followed by College day. Students demonstrated support for their favorite college or university by wearing spirit gear and school colors.

Hat day followed; students and staff could purchase a $2 wristband that would directly support the cause. Thursday was superhero day; students were encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero. The last day of the week was reserved for Maroon day to emphasize hawk pride!

Wish week is concluded with an assembly which included performances from the cheer team, the Poms squad, the Thoroughly Modern Millie cast, and Horizon’s very first dodgeball tournament.

The first round was a battle of Seniors against the underclassmen. Seniors won and advanced to the next round against teachers. With more than half their team still standing, the teachers took home the victory.

During the assembly, Student Government announced they raised over $3000 with contributions from Hat day, donations from clubs and activities, and DECA’s miracle minute.

Wish week is a way Horizon students and faculty can give back to the community and be instilled with a sense of selflessness and achievement.
