Every year since 2014, the popular streaming app Twitch has held a game awards ceremony, but most refer to it as TGA for “The Game Awards.” This year’s TGA was quite special with many anticipated game releases announced and many surprises throughout, a whole new kind of award being granted, and many titles winning awards that stunned the audience.
One of the first notable release announcements was completely unexpected by the public; The Witcher 4 with Ciri as the new protagonist. The cinematic trailer for the game was absolutely stunning when it comes to graphics and voice acting, and long term Witcher fans will notice a lot of small details that only make it more interesting. Another 4th edition of a game that was highly anticipated also got its announcement trailer shown; Borderlands 4. After the movie came out and the criticism it received, fans have been antsy as they wait for the reveal of the 4th Borderlands game. All in all, it seems very different from the last three games- which may just be what it needs to succeed. Many fans grew tired of the repetitive characters and plotlines, so the completely different scenery may be beneficial to Gearbox Software.
Throughout the awards ceremony, many special guests made appearances from voice actors and singers to game developers or CEOs of companies. One of the first guests was truly special, revealing the “Best Performance” award. The release of the new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle brought a very special guest to the stage; Harrison Ford himself. The winner of the award was Melina Juergens due to her stellar performance in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Many other special guests donned the stage that night, both groups being well known artists. During the ceremony, the show adaptation of the game League of Legends called Arcane had gotten an orchestral performance. During this performance, several singers of the second season songs had made their appearances such as Twenty-One Pilots and D4vd. Later on, Snoop Dogg took the stage for a performance of two of his songs; “Thank You” and “Gin and Juice.” After his performance, he was the announcer for the “best ongoing game” award, which was given to Helldivers 2.
Many games that hadn’t been huge on social media had gotten multiple awards, such as games like Astro Bot and Balatro. A few large titles had gotten mentioned, but for the most part the awards given out were given to the previously mentioned smaller titles. Overall, the 10th annual Twitch Game Awards was one of the most interesting with who they had starring on it, the titles that won major awards, and the announced games for 2025.
