December 7th, marks the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in America. Nearly, 83 years ago since the tragic attack.
On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service executed a surprise attack on an American naval base. The United States naval base Pearl Harbor is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Just before 8:00AM on a Sunday morning, Japan dispatched all 6 fleet carriers across 3,000 miles of open ocean. With this being a surprise attack, the US forces were unprepared for the tragedy ahead.
Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was the mastermind of this attack, he believed this would cripple the US military. In less than 90 minutes, Japanese planes destroyed 19 US warships and 300 US aircraft. Killing over 2,400 American souls during this attack. Almost half of the deceased were crewmen from battleship USS Arizona. The ship sank within minutes of explosion, also igniting more than a million pounds of ammunition.
This event marked the United States entrance into World War ll. It also marked this day in history to remember the lives lost.
