When it comes to music genres there might not be anything more decisive than Christmas music. Now, I personally don’t have an issue with Christmas music but if you where to ask a retail employee they would likely say they hate it. A lot of the hate comes from the music itself but the other big reason is when it starts playing everywhere and that got me thinking, when do people think is the right time to start playing Christmas music?
Local Colorado radio station Kosi 101.1 has announced that their non-stop Christmas music will begin on November 14th. Now to get the answer myself on when people think is the right time to start playing Christmas music, I conducted a small poll ofÂ
a few students and teachers here at Horizon. In first place with 6 votes was December 1st which is when most people associate the start of Christmas time. In second place we had the day after Thanksgiving with four votes which also comes as no surprise as after Thanksgiving the next major holiday is Christmas. Tied for third place with three votes each we had November first and mid November which can feel a little early for some people especially November 1st. Finally in last place with two votes each we have the two opposite ends of the spectrum with never and anytime. To keep gathering data I then turned to the internet. According to a poll conducted by Bustle Magazine 26 percent of people said that November 1st was the best time to start playing it but the answer with the largest amount of support was anytime after Thanksgiving with 52 percent of people asked responding with that. Rounding out the Bustles poll was 2 percent saying you should never play it 9 percent say December 1st and surprisingly 11 percent of people asked said that anytime was the right time to begin playing those festive holiday classics.
While my search for an exact answer came up short, I think we can agree that the consensus from both polls was between the day after Thanksgiving and December 2nd with a majority of people giving those dates as their answer. Whether you like Christmas music or not we can all agree it can help that Christmas spirit.
