Homecoming week at horizon is filled with events like powder puff and the homecoming football game that lead up to the dance last saturday night. but one of my favorite events of the week is the often forgotten homecoming tailgate which happens every year at North stadium 2 hours before the homecoming football game. This years tailgate was no different as it was filled with good food and fun games.
Many different clubs from Horizon had games or activities that were unique to them, while others did classic carnival midway games for some fun prizes.
Up first we have UMAS Y MECHA who put a fun twist on the classic game bingo.’ Players had to get a bingo vertically, horizontally or diagonally by identifying the different spanish words on your card, the words included melon, soldier, and bottle and if you won you were rewarded with Mexican lollipops and candies.
Next there was Spanish National Honor Society who had two classic carnival games for people to play. The first was ring toss where you had to throw the plastic rings onto a plastic cone, it was quite challenging as I played it three times and was not able to win but other people had more success than I did. Their other game was a twist on a bean bag toss where you had to throw the mini bean bag into a baking sheet, with different prizes depending on if you got the bean bag into a colored hole or not. If you won at either game you were rewarded with a plastic bead necklace, and if you weren’t successful you still got a piece of candy.
Junior leadership’s game is up next, and they easily had the most popular game with a decent sized line all night long. The idea of the game wasn’t anything crazy as it was just your typical ring toss but the prize took it to another level. That prize was soda. It may sound simple but if you put caffeine in front of high schoolers most of them are going to want it, which is why the game was so popular especially since it was a free game. These things led it to be the most popular game of the night.
The final two clubs that were there were Art National Honor Society and French National honor society. The Art National Honor Society provided free face painting for everyone at the event. French National Honor Society went with the classic midway game pick a duck, which was quite popular all night because everyone got a fun prize.
These clubs took time out of their nights to come help out and it made for a super fun event that was enjoyed by all.
