Although in 2021 there wasn’t a lot of new Star Wars content, 2022 is definitely here to make up for that. There is a lot of stuff that was either confirmed or speculated to come out in the coming months. 2022 is definitely going to be the year for Star Wars and it’s not an understatement to say that fans are exhilarated. 

Disney+

Disney Plus is the head of the Star Wars content and will be seeing the most action as the year transpires. Non-surprisingly a vast majority of the shows that are going to be released are ones that were announced back in 2020. 

The first show is already streaming, titled, The Book of Boba Fett. Technically the first episode started streaming on Disney+ on December 29, 2021, but the rest of the eight episodes will be streaming through January and early February. This show follows Boba Fett after season 2 of the Mandalorian. The main characters are Boba Fett, obviously, and Fennec Shand. 

The next show is Andor. The streaming date is still unknown but it has been confirmed that the first season will have a total of 12 episodes. This show will be a prequel to Rogue One that came out in 2016. It will follow Cassian Andor and his imperial droid K-2S0 and their struggle against the Empire. Many fans have been excited about this show as Cassian and K-2S0 were fan favorites in the movie.  

The third show that is expected on Disney+ is the second season of The Bad Batch. Much like every show that is on this list the streaming date is still unknown but fans are hoping it will mirror last year and start streaming on May 4th. It was also confirmed that there will be 16 episodes just like season one. Along with that some things about the show itself have been confirmed. One of the things is that there will be a time jump between season one and season two. This means that we might be able to see older Omega as well as whether Crosshair was picked up from the landing pad or not. 

The next show is probably the one that star wars fans are most excited for. The Kenobi show will finally start streaming sometime this year. It will star Ewan Mcgreggor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and will take place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith. The show also will have Hayden Christensen playing as possibly both Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. It is also rumored there will be Ahsoka Tano in the show as well as Duchess Satine. Fans are looking forward to possibly seeing clone wars favorites in live action. 

The fifth piece of Star Wars content is actually not a show, it’s a movie. It is going to be an unknown Lego Star Wars Special. Fans are anxious to see what this one will be. They are curious because in 2020 we got a Lego Holiday Special and in 2021 we got a Lego Halloween special. Fans are excited to see if this will be for a repeat holiday or something else. 

Finally the sixth show that will be streaming on Disney+ will be the much anticipated Mandalorian season three. Star Wars fans have been waiting for this season to come out since December or 2020 and are hoping that this is the year. Based on where season 2 left off everyone is curious to see what is going to happen in this quickly approaching season. 

Games

Besides shows and movies there are also going to be two different Star Wars games that are anticipated to come out this year. The first is Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. With this game, however, fans are a little cautious about the release date as it was originally supposed to release in 2020 and then later in 2021. The looming question is will it be released this year or get pushed back to 2023.

The other game that is expected to release sometime in 2022 is Star Wars: Hunters. Unfortunately, not too much is known about this game but based on the title it can be inferred it will have something to do with Bounty Hunters. Whether we have a lot of information or not it sounds very fun and exciting and fans cannot wait. 

Books

Finally there are a couple of books that have been said will be coming out sometime this year. The first is actually two separate books in the same series. They are both a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic series. They will be books four and five. Actually, one of these books was released on January 4th so it’s already out for people to buy. The second one will be released on February 1, 2022. If you are curious why they are being released so close together it’s because they were both written by two separate authors.  

The next book is Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Official Collector’s Edition Book. This book will hold interesting facts about the clone wars as well as house official concept art and probably much more. Originally it was supposed to be released last November but then it was changed. Now, this book is currently scheduled to be released on March 29, 2022. 

The final book that we know of is Queen’s Hope by E.K. Johnston. This will be the third book of a short “series” following Padme Amidala. The first two books are Queen’s Shadow and Queen’s Peril. One followed her life as the queen and the other followed her life as a new senator. One can only wonder what part of Padme’s life this story is going to follow. It is scheduled to be released on April 5, 2022. 

Clearly that is not going to be everything released this year but it’s a decent handful of it. Fans are excited to see all of this new stuff come out and know this is going to be the year for Star Wars. Personally, I am most excited for the second season of The Bad Batch as are a lot of other star wars fans. However, besides The Book of Boba Fett all of this stuff is still a little ways off so until it’s out may the force be with you.
