Manchester United after Ole
December 2, 2021
Manchester United, one of the most decorated football clubs in the world, has not been having a great season. They recently welcomed soccer superstar Christiano Ronaldo back onto the team after serving for other various clubs since he left the Red Devils in 2009. The club hoped this big deal would help their odds, but it seems as if a lack of morale has been detrimental to their season thus far.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær, a former Manchester United player, has decided to leave Manchester United after a devastating season. He released this shocking news after a treacherous 4-1 defeat to Watford. The team has been evidently struggling this season with 5 wins and 5 losses out of 13 games played. On November 21, he announced that he would be resigning from his position as the manager of the team.
However, Ole’s career as team manager for Manchester United was not all bad. He helped the team win 14/19 games while serving as caretaker manager after José Mourinho left. Officially stepping in as manager on the 28th of March, 2019, Ole brought the team to a 6th place Premier League Finish which qualified them for the Europa League. Even better, despite a weird season with the COVID-19 Pandemic, Manchester United performed amazingly well with a second place finish next to Manchester City for the Premier League 2020-2021 season. This was a right of entry for the Red Devils to compete in the world’s most prestigious Champions League. This was a huge deal until the disappointment of United getting knocked out in the group stage by RB Leipzig. Ole’s strong leadership and equanimity made him a unique and classy coach. He will be missed. He influenced the dynamic and iconic Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba duo that has inspired fans and swept opponents.
After all this mayhem, what’s next for Manchester United? Well, the teams’ caretaker manager, Micheal Carrick, has stepped in to lead the team. He expressed his sorrows about Ole leaving whilst ensuring that he would do what he could to help United stay afloat, “It’s been tough at times,” he acknowledged, “But I’m immensely proud of the response and the way we’ve gone about it this week.” Carrick helped the team tie big component, Chelsea, 1-1 on the 28th. Manchester United has also announced that Carrick will be manager for United in their next game against Arsenal on December 2nd.
It was just announced that Ralph Rangnick will be interim manager for the remainder of the regular Premier League season. It seems like Rangnick will take over this position at his first coaching game against Crystal Palace on Sunday, December 5. The German former RB Leipzig coach has also been rumored to have used a “wheel of misfortune” with his former team to punish their actions.
Currently, Manchester United holds 10th place in the Premier League Standings. This placement is unlike them and quite demotivating. It will be interesting to see how Rangnick will work with Manchester United and who would be the permanent manager after this season. In the meantime, best of luck to Ole in his future pursuits and Manchester United without him.
