Things to Take Away From 2020:

Nicholas Lockwood

Introduction:

The beginning of the end, with this year coming to an end. This year is finally over, after many of the world’s issues became apparent. The world is going through a historic pandemic, large amounts of social unrest, and an economic recession that has left people lining up for their next meal. The year has seen many people struggle, and everything has gotten divisive from this year’s election to the solution to these problems. So what exactly are the lessons that should be learned because of this year?

  1. Be Thankful for What Is Left:

With several people losing everything, including their homes, and even their loved ones from Covid-19, it would be important to be grateful for what we have. Especially with talking material value, life and safety are incredibly important. Having the rest of the things we have is incredibly important. Many people especially around the world due to this pandemic can’t be able to afford food, so it would be a great reminder for not taking everything for granted, because many things may not last forever.

  1. Self-Care Is Incredibly Important:

The pandemic has given many people alone time. This makes people feel isolated and unmotivated. I can even relate to this as well in relation to remote learning, and having a sense of not being motivated. It is incredibly difficult to stay motivated during this time period due to the fact that we’re living a pandemic. This makes staying motivated, and to become successful. This means that self-care should be a motivation for several others, especially in an isolated time during this pandemic. An aspect of self-care would also be caring for others in a community, due to the fact that sharing with others and expressing feelings can make miles for mental health.

  1. Don’t Surrender to Anxiety, or Give Up:

Many have fear related to the Coronavirus. Instead of having full fear and completely collapsing into panic. The Coronavirus is a dangerous virus, but putting your mind to other activities could achieve more to not being in a constant state of anxiety. Once fear takes hold, it is very difficult to control in the future. Giving up during this and finding issues that many would care about would be erasing achievements throughout the years, and we must preserve throughout these years.

  1. Still Have Hope:

While the pandemic has been raging around the world, and several Americans have given up on public institutions, it is important to not lose all hope. Recently, the Coronavirus has been raging, but that hasn’t stopped the development of a new vaccine. “So if we can get the overwhelming proportion of the population vaccinated by let’s say the end of the second, the beginning of the third quarter – by the time we get into mid-fall of 2021, we can be approaching some level of normality,” stated Dr. Anthony Fauci in a CNBC interview. This means that the promotion of the new Covid-19 vaccine will cause a sense of normalcy in the future, meaning that while this virus will still be a threat, the chapter of this pandemic will eventually conclude.

Conclusion:

This year has been tough to say the least. There are multiple reasons to conclude that this is one of the worst years in the modern 21st century, or even the worst year in this century. However, we as the public have a responsibility to learn from our mistakes, and start anew, which everyone should be doing next year in 2021.
