2019 is right around the corner, with only two months left this year, and we have many things to look back on in pop culture. The top movie, song, TV show, album, and book in 2018 – let’s talk about them.

Starting with the “best movie” of 2018, Black Panther is the highest-grossing film this year, according to AMC. Black Panther has over $501 million in North America and $897 million worldwide, making it pass Deadpool. The superhero movie has also passed Titanic on the all time Box Office list. Another achievement – it is officially the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time which doesn’t feature either characters of Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark.

“The Good Place – Season 3” is a top TV pick of 2018. Showing the statistics of the Rotten Tomato critics, “The Good Place” has a tomatometer rating of 100%, meaning 100% of approved critics have given this season/it’s episodes a positive review, the average rating is 8.94 out of 10, and there are 32 “fresh reviews” with zero “rotten” reviews. The audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes show that 82% of users have rated this show at least 3.5 stars and the average rating is a 4.1 out of 5.

“God’s Plan” by Drake is presented as the top song of 2018, according to Official Charts. It has spent 11 weeks on Billboard Hot 100 from February 3, 2018 to April 14, 2018. It has become the first song ever to be on Billboard Hot 100 for at least three weeks with more than 75 million US streams, according to Nielsen Music. Not to mention, it is the second song in history to be streamed 100 million times in a week, following behind Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” that was streamed at an all time high of 103.1 million in a week.

Although “God’s Plan” is the top song of 2018, Scorpion, Drake’s album which this top song is featured in, isn’t the top album of this year. Unexpectedly, The Greatest Showman soundtrack is the biggest-selling album of the year. The soundtrack has spent 21 non-consecutive weeks at Number 1 and, according to the Official Charts Company, it has sold 931,00 copies of physical and digital purchases combined. It has been the 10th soundtrack to reach Number 1 in the past five years.

Deemed as the No.1 best selling novel of 2018 is “Little Fires Everywhere,” a novel by Celeste Ng. This novel describes the struggles of custody battles and dealing with being a single mother. Instantly after the release of the book, it hit the New York Times best-seller list, staying there for 42 weeks. Among other things, it was selected for best novel of 2017 by Amazon and sits at No.15 on the list of best-selling books of 2018 in July 2018. Now, a Hulu TV series will be based on “Little Fires Everywhere,” which will be starring Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon.

This year has been full of achievements and milestones that were accomplished in the film and music industries. Various genres of movies, TV shows, books, and music are reaching top charts worldwide, showing the diversity of this world. We have many things to thank in 2018, but here’s to a new start in 2019 and all the new things it’ll bring.
