Hawk Homecoming Happenings

Hawk Homecoming Happenings

Lizzy Crawford

Hey Hawks, October means a few things including spooky season and the start to fall. However, it also means Homecoming! After over a year without large gatherings, homecoming this year has a lot of hype and anticipation. Our Student Government has been hard at work preparing for this year’s homecoming. Here are a few details to know:

Something that goes on all week long is the spirit days. Spirit week themes this year go along with the Hollywood themed dance. It is lots of fun to dress up and participate, so don’t miss out. Also, teachers and students who participate will be entered into drawings to win prizes such as free homecoming tickets. Monday’s theme is depicting the movie Dodgeball; you can plan on coming to school wearing any kind of sports gear! Tuesday will be Footloose/80s day; so remember to dress up for that funky decade on the 5th. Wednesday’s movie is Major Payne, which means come to school decked out in camo. People may not be able to see you while you’re wearing it, but at least you are showing school spirit! Thursday is going to be Western Day. Gather your boots, flannels, and twang to represent the movie Urban Cowboy. To end off the week, dress up in your Horizon Hawk gear to show spirit like the movie Bring it On

Monday the 4th is the Powder Puff game! This is the notorious event when Junior vs. Senior girls play each other in a game of flag football. The game will be held at North Stadium and doors open at 7:30pm. Entry is 5 dollars cash and you cannot use athletic passes. If you are rooting for the Juniors, wear white and sit on the visitor’s side, but if you are cheering on the Senior girls, wear black and sit in the home stands. This game is going to be lots of fun and very intense as both teams have been practicing for weeks in preparation. Keep an eye out for your upperclassmen friends or fellow classmates on the field and remember to wish them good luck in the hallways!

On Friday, classes will be on an adjusted schedule to accommodate the homecoming assembly. Many sports are planning dances while some clubs are doing activities at the assembly. Horizon’s DECA will be doing a miracle minute charity donation to raise money for our favorite campus supervisor: the legendary Chad. Don’t forget to bring cash if you plan on donating.

And of course you can’t forget about the focus of homecoming week, the homecoming football game. The game is at 7pm at North Stadium against Fossil Ridge. This is going to be a highly competitive game because it is homecoming, so we are going to need all the fans we can get! Don’t miss it.

Also remember to attend the pregame tailgate at North Stadium from 4:30 to 6:30. There will be games, prizes, and – best of all – food trucks. Show your Hawk Spirit by wearing your Horizon merch to the game!

Now for the spotlight, pun intended, of hoco week: the theme of the Homecoming Dance is going to be Hollywood, or Lights, Camera, Action! This theme will go perfect with the outdoor setting on the football field. The dance is on Saturday the 9th from 7-11pm and you can buy tickets during periods 2-8 which are $20 a piece. Remember that you need to have a 95% attendance rate to be able to attend the dance, excused absences do not count against this.

One last thing, Hawk Royalty will be presented during halftime at the homecoming football game on Friday right before a fireworks show. Make sure you vote using the nomination form on the Horizon Website. Official voting takes place during homecoming week.

That may have been a lot of information to take in, but the point of homecoming week is that there is something for everyone. No matter what grade you are in, everyone comes together HOCO week to have a good time and show our appreciation for our school and community through Hawk PRIDE. See you next week in Hollywood!
