The 2021 Summer Olympics Raising Concern of a Possible Superspreader Event

A light out of the Tunnel or Endless Loophole?

In March of last year The 2020 Summer Olympics were postponed due to COVID-19. As of now the Summer games start in July of 2021. Organizers of the Olympics had a plan to carry a torch in which the flame signifying life. Overall the games were going to be a symbol of overcoming COVID-19 and a hope that our planet holds for the future. 

As of January 7th Tokyo issued a state of emergency and went into lockdown that got extended. The fear of CoronaVirus doesn’t just appear out of thin air but the continued pattern seen from Japanese Sumo Wrestlers, badminton, table tennis, and rugby. A Japanese senior government minister had confessed that the outcome could “go either way”. Knowing the risks, many people are furious with the decision to continue the Summer Games. 

The Australian Olympic Committee Chief Matt said “ The games are definitely on. The flame will be lit on the 23rd of July .” Organizers are much more confident this time around that fate remains unknown until months closer. There was speculation that the games were canceled when a leaked report written by the British Times exposed an unnamed Japanese government official who confirmed the summer games were off. But it was quickly denounced and debunked.
